About ESTIREZ

ESTIREZ (Estimation distribuée de systèmes dynamiques en réseaux) is a research project financed by the region of Nord-Pas-de-Calais of France. The aim of this project is to investigate the problem of control, estimation and system identification of networked control systems. Networked control systems are present in the majority of modern control devices. A networked control system (NCS)) is a control system whose components (plants, sensors, embedded control algorithms and actuators) are spatially distributed and communicate with each other by using communication networks (either digital or wireless). The defining feature of an NCS is that control and feedback signals are exchanged among the system’s components in the form of digital information packages. The primary advantages of an NCS are reduced wiring, ease of diagnosis and maintenance and increased flexibility. However, the use of communication networks leads to a number of technical problems: limited information bandwidth, communication delays, complex interactions between control algorithms and real-time scheduling protocols, etc. These problems may lead to poor system performance and even instability if not appropriately taken into account For this reason, research on NCSs aims at developing control algorithms which can handle the technical problems explained above. Examples of such systems include cars, manufacturing facilities, electrical power distribution networks.
